Why Long Grove?

Sock Monkey Museum - Why Long Grove

Long Grove has a charming little historic downtown, with a one-lane Covered Bridge. It is rich with the history of German pioneers who settled there in the 1840s. Many buildings in the historic district date back from the 1800s and have been converted to shops and restaurants. It is a special place where people have fond memories of visiting over the decades. It hosts many annual outdoor festivals (including Chocolate Fest in May, Strawberry Fest in June and Apple Fest in September) attended by thousands. But, as years go by, things can change. Some years are kinder than others. Sock Monkey saw the potential in the town, and along with many other willing businesses, he wanted to help make the downtown area a fun destination again. This would be the perfect place for Sock Monkey Museum!

Sock Monkey chose the beautiful green building at 210 Robert Parker Coffin Road for a new home. It has so much character. In another life, it was a Christmas Shop – a place where people enjoyed coming to view beautiful displays and buy holiday gifts. This will be a great place for people to revisit, to see all of the vintage Sock Monkeys and enjoy the nostalgic feeling again. If you have been lucky enough to have had a Sock Monkey growing up, the Museum can be a trip down memory lane. If you are new to Sock Monkeys, you can learn about what makes them so special.
