Well, it didn’t just happen. It has been a labor of love, for years. The Museum houses the world’s largest handmade Sock Monkey collection, displayed on two floors. Visitors can view the Sock Monkeys in many different settings. They can learn about their history and the Rockford Red Heel Socks they are made from and find out why Sock Monkeys are still popular today. There are exhibits about the history of socks through the ages, along with fun sock facts.
Long Grove is a special little village where cobblestone walkways lead you past buildings that are rich with the history of settlers, dating back to the 1800s.
Our mission is simple – to create an environment of fun and to make people smile, one Sock Monkey at a time!
There are over 2,000 Vintage Sock Monkeys under one roof, well, some are on top of one roof, well, two roofs, and in the trees, and on the ceilings, and swinging from the chandelier, well, you have to see them for yourself!
No one knows exactly who made the first Sock Monkey. Without a man named John Nelson, who knows where Sock Monkeys would be.
